Hello, Beautiful People of the Blog,
I rarely run out of words, but today I am not sure I have any that will rise to the occasion. I am bereft. I am bewildered. I am blindsided.
Love lost today. Hope lost today. Freedom lost today. Kindness lost today. Joy lost today. Compassion lost today. Civility lost today.
We all lost today.
There is no other, there are no sides, there is only us, a nation divided. The question is, can it stand?
“In the long run, the sharpest weapon of all is a kind and gentle spirit.” Anne Frank
This isn't just about one man. This isn't about my team and your team. This is not about us and them. This is about all of US. This is about the Senate, the House, and the Supreme Court. This is about civil rights, women's rights, gay rights, worker's rights, and human rights. This is about the future of our nation. This is about the future of our planet. This is about science. This is about the economy. This is about freedom of and from religion. This is about freedom of speech and freedom of the press. This is about the slow, steady drip, drip, drip eroding everything good and true and noble this country has ever hoped to become.
"Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light." Dumbledore-Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Today I will mourn all the good that could have been. Today I will mourn for my daughter, for my gay friends, for my Hispanic friends, for my Muslim friends, for my handicapped friends, for my female friends, for my atheist friends, for every one, including my friends and family who know not what they have done.
"I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe." The Dalai Lama
Tomorrow I will rise, resolute with the conviction that love always, always trumps hate. I will fight with every breath in my body for truth, hope, compassion, civility, acceptance, unity, and love. I will surround myself with beauty, joy, music, art, light, laughter, love, family, friends, and everything that makes life worth living, worth fighting for.
All hope is not lost, but it has taken a holiday for today. Let's welcome it back with open hearts tomorrow. We have a lot of work to do.
"It is often when night looks darkest, it is often before the fever breaks that one senses the gathering momentum for change, when one feels the resurrection of hope in the midst of despair and apathy." Hillary Rodham Clinton
Today I will shine my little light in the darkness. Will you join me? Perhaps together we can find our way back. Today I mourn, tomorrow I rise.
