E Pluribus Unum

Hello, People of the Internets,

Yesterday, I mourned. Today I rise. If you are here for glue sticks and glitter, that part of my life is over. I am a writer, now. I am going to speak out, speak up, and speak freely for those who are afraid to speak for themselves. I am going to start shining a big, bright light on the man behind the curtain. If that offends you or upsets you, then I guess we will have to part ways. That makes me sad at what we will both lose, but I wish you love, light, and peace. We are not enemies, regardless of how we vote, pray, love, think, or live.

The outcome of this election has deep, disturbing implications. My friends, LGBTQ, Hispanic, female, people of color have already been attacked, harassed, and threatened. What has been exposed and empowered is dangerous. I can't stand by and let that happen without saying something. Months ago I wrote a post about the rise of Trump, in the hope that maybe some folks would pay attention and think deeply about what it means when a demagogue takes power. They always play to huge crowds, because people are hard wired for that message. That message is a lie.

There is no us and them, and we are not on different sides. That narrative is a diversion. I don't for a moment think the president runs the show. It doesn't matter who is in the White House, really. It does matter who is in the White House, the Senate, the House, and on the Supreme Court if the deck is stacked in the favor of the elites. We live in an oligarchy. The people pulling the strings of our government could give two shits in a bucket about you or me. Keeping us divided helps divert our attention. They got behind candidate Trump because he activated a part of the electorate they'd abandoned long ago. They don't care about them nor will they do anything for them. They are the true cause of most of their challenges. They just needed their votes so they could gain control of all of the branches of government and complete the dismantling of anything that stands in the way of their profits. They manipulated every aspect of this election and they have their talons in every career politician on both sides of the aisle. This election and every election for decades has been a lie. Millions of people have lost their voices through voter purges, redistricting, and targeted silencing. Trump was right, it is rigged and it always has been. Bernie was right, the top 1% are running the show.

I simply can not continue drinking the Kool-Aid. I can't stand by and let my friends be attacked and say nothing. I can't watch this shit show progress and at least try to shine a light in the darkness and bang the drum for truth and freedom. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men (and women) should do nothing. I was angry yesterday, heartbroken, but today I am resolute. I am sorry for lashing out in anger, I am not angry at my friends or family. That emotion was misplaced. I am sad that so many people whom I love are brainwashed into complacency and fear. There is no us and them, we don't have to be a nation divided and you and I don't have to be on different sides of some imaginary divide. E Pluribus Unum, of many, one. Of the people, by the people, and for the people, please don't let them make you forget that.
